Job Purpose: The Business Development Manager is responsible for developing growth plans and generating revenue for the company. The successful individual will demonstrate effective leadership, develop and execute business development strategies, and manage customer relationships.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage client relationships, both new and existing to ensure the company meets and exceeds annual sales targets.
  • Attend tradeshows, events, and other business development opportunities to develop new relationships and build current partnerships.
  • Partner with corporate business development representatives, marketing, and other departments to create and implement business development strategies and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Contract Sales Manager to build an annual plan for contract glazing projects, supporting strategies, process, and marketing efforts (as part of the company’s growth plan).
  • Develop the retail, maintenance, and distribution revenue streams, playing an active sales role and building the team for growth. Develop new revenue streams.
  • Within corporate guidelines and profitability expectations, ensure all team members apply appropriate job costing standards to meet or exceed Heartland’s profitability goals.
  • Estimate projects and maintenance opportunities, including reviewing specifications, quoting, consulting with clients, and collaborating with internal team members to successfully win work.
  • Manage sales and customer service personnel including hiring, performance reviews, training, and development.
  • Manage sales and contracts in alignment with operations to successfully schedule and complete work on time, within budget, and meets quality standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least five years’ experience in sales management, business development, or other related field required.
  • High emotional intelligence and effective interpersonal skills required to deal with diverse personalities at all levels of management.
  • Effective negotiation skills and problem resolution experience.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills are an absolute must.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, ever changing working environment.
  • Technically competent and able to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of the glass/glazing industry or building envelope is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprint and CAD drawings preferred.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude (geometry, fractions, decimals) preferred.
