Job Purpose: The Human Resources and Safety Manager is a strategic business partner across our family of companies, responsible for developing and executing an HR strategy aligned with business needs. This leader will collaborate with corporate and division leaders to drive results and deliver value-added support to managers and employees. The successful individual will demonstrate effective leadership, human resource process design experience, care for hiring Right Person, Right Seat, and an understanding of what it takes to manage risks in the construction and manufacturing industries. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the willingness to manage multiple simultaneous priorities.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Human Resources and Safety Manager will lead Human Resources’ daily operations (managing the Recruiter and Safety Coordinator) to support business functions such as onboarding, training, development, retention, compensation, employee relations, safety, and compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Sits on corporate leadership team for strategic planning and annual planning processes with a focus on people priorities; determines talent implications of planning process
- Oversees the Employee Lifecycle and set the strategy for how we hire and retain talent
- Leads and participates in talent development and review process across the organization
- Reviews, recommends, and implements improvements of HR policies, procedures, and practices
- Serves as champion and role model for culture efforts and initiatives within business
- Advances Brin Glass Company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion planning, with a focus on belonging
- Responsible for succession planning and assisting in identifying and developing future leaders
- Develops and administers benefits programs across the organization for the ESOP, and across multiple union contracts
- Maintains organizational compliance with all levels of legislation and regulation:
- Develops an audit schedule, perform periodic audits of HR files and records, and consult with legal counsel as appropriate
- Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations and leads the investigation of accidents and injuries
- Maintains safety files and records. Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time
- Oversees all records and employee relations items, such as employment law compliance, investigations, worker’s compensation records, FMLA, etc. (owns HRIS system)
- Serves as EEO specialist and OSHA compliance officer, maintains Affirmative Action plan
- Continually assesses company culture, morale, engagement, performance, and follow-through on recommendations for improvements or best practices
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related personnel management field, or an equivalent education and experience. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-PC or SHRM-SPC highly desired
- Five to seven years of directly related duties, with at least two years’ experience in labor relations
- Knowledge of current laws and regulations regarding employers’ and employees’ rights/obligations
- Evident leader able to yield influence, who exhibits integrity, drives company culture initiatives, and resolves conflicts effectively
- Interpersonal skills required to collaborate with diverse personalities at all levels of the organization; Exhibits high emotional intelligence
- Strong computer and technology skills, including MS Office products and HRIS. Experience with HRIS systems required (UKG preferred)
- Demonstrates remarkable conflict management and decision-making skills to ensure employee compliance and to minimize company risk
