Glazing Team Lead

This position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the field installation. Must coordinate on-site construction activities and supervise field personnel to successfully complete projects on schedule, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.

Core Responsibilities for Glazing Leads:

  • Directs field personnel to complete projects within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to the work order or project specifications
    • Provide direction for foreman, site lead, and glazing teams assigned to projects
    • Answer daily glazier questions, or related shop questions
    • Visit jobsites to review work, train team members, and check quality
  • Manage glazier time:
    • For Service: Reviews service work orders from the previous day to verify completion, log time to jobs, and double verify glazer time in timekeeping system (Kronos).
    • For Contract: Ensures glaziers have job codes and enter time consistently and accurately. Checks timekeeping reports for accuracy to job costs.
  • Oversee communication for daily and weekly schedules, ensuring field personnel know their schedules and locations:
    • Attend scheduling meetings and participate in labor planning for the week(s) ahead helping determine the right field personnel for each project
    • Collaborate with schedule coordinator to publish finished schedules and update/communicate changes to the schedule throughout the week
    • Confirm material is in the warehouse (or delivered to the jobsite), correct, complete and ready to install
    • Verify schedule and have coordinator confirm site or client availability
    • Schedule equipment/rentals, request/verify permits, assist sales, and support the team with difficult or challenging job set-ups and logistics
    • Assist and answer sales and project questions, linking office and field teams
    • Manage and support Glazing/Project Management Communication Protocol (see Glazing/Project management Communication SOP)
  • Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles
    • Manage tool room and other shared glazing resource areas
    • Manage and record individual glazier tool assignments and vehicle tool assignments
  • Fleet Maintenance
    • Schedule including aerial equipment as applies to both Contract and Service, including routine maintenance and repairs for all glazing vehicles
      • *NOTE: Contract Lead maintains Contract equipment/vehicles. Service Lead maintains Service equipment/vehicles
    • Service Specific Expectations:
      • Prepares, schedules, and supervises completion of punch lists
      • Manage/order standard stock glazing supplies, such as caulk, channel, fasteners, foam tape, blue tape, alcohol, rags and other products as needed (Communicate/Coordinate with Contract Glazing Team Lead)
    • Contract Specific Expectations:
      • Attend and participate in labor estimating meetings and project kickoff meetings
      • Review shop drawings prior to the project manager submitting to ensure proper means and methods
      • Work with the project manager for verifications of glass sizes, door sizes, system sizes and any other product
      • Visit jobsite periodically during the installation. Communicate with the project manager/field foreman prior to visit to see if supplies are needed or specific issues need to be reviewed
      • Manage/order standard stock glazing supplies, such as caulk, channel, fasteners, foam tape, blue tape, alcohol, rags and other products as needed
      • Confirm Stock Purchase orders are created and submitted to pull any items from stock for Contract Jobs. (Communicate/Coordinate with Service Glazing Team Lead)
      • Manage preparation and logistics of gang boxes with all required tools prior to the field staff is onsite for Contract jobs.
      • Assign punch lists to Roving Foreman or field personnel to ensure each job is finished to specification.
    • Perform all other duties, not mentioned above, as needed.

 

Management Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional communication with all team members, communicating through phone, text and email in a professional and timely manner
  • Manage communication protocol and escalation process to ensure any issue is addressed quickly within budget and to project specification
  • Hiring and performance management of glazing personnel aligned with company values
  • Maintain safety protocols and training
    • Ensure field teams have completed annual safety training
    • Work with field team to maintain training and core certifications
    • Develop and provide site-specific safety documentation input
    • Ensure first report of injury protocol is followed and documentation is submitted for all incidents and near misses
    • Ensure all field personnel are adhering to company policies and procedures, including administering the company’s safety policies
  • Backup Service or Contract Glazing Lead during vacation and other work absences
    • Maintain a general knowledge of the scope of all glazing projects
    • Ensure all field personnel are adhering to all company policies and procedures including administering the company’s safety policies
  • Collaborate with financial leadership to plan annual expenditures
    • Budget for labor and manage to profitability targets
    • Verify and approve expense reports from field glazing staff
    • Plan capital expenditures aligned with business goals
    • Review monthly profit & loss reports and adjust to meet expectations
